I learned about them in TechCrunch the other day and there are 5 things I like about this project:
1- Improve the world philosophy: I believe that’s why we should all be here and that’s what we should be spending our time on. It’s not obvious in every job and it doesn’t need to be, but I always ask myself what’s my contribution and the impact of what I do, not only as a person but also as a professional. I can’t stay long in a place if I can’t find a positive one.
2- Making money driver: Virgance is a for-profit organization, a company in the real world. They might want to make meaning, but they don’t forget about making money which is, in the end, what drives markets, development, innovation, wealth and what brings solutions to the countries and communities who need them. Profitability is a sine qua non condition for scalability.
3- Entrepreneurial focus: They don’t look for employees, they look for entrepreneurs who want to spend there a stage of their learning processes to jump latter and do something themselves.
4- Technology leverage: they will use technology to make their initiatives big, to reach more people, to involve the world. Technology is a powerful tool, I’m permanently impressed by its capability to empower individuals, make information accessible and break distance barriers. Experts in technology is basically what you have in the Valley so I think world-improving ideas and technology is a strong combination.
5-Horizontal and transparent team spirit: They say they don’t have job descriptions and that what they do is detect talent and bring it in, which looks like a good strategy to build teams. They claim total transparency, in expenses, salaries, projects, strategy…. I like the spirit you can breathe in their website.
Virgance is the kind of project I want to be part of. In fact, that’s what I want to create myself, a channel and a network to increase the impact of world-improving initiatives.

… but even if they weren’t hiring! I decided I’ll go to their offices, knock twice and whistle “Hooked on a Feeling” and I’ll be there long enough to learn what they do and replicate it in Europe.
I’m glad to discover them now, in this new inflection point of my life.
