I red this post about Facebook and I agreed.
In fact, what I think would really be fair is that we both (Facebook and I) own this information. He can use it for advertising as long as they don’t surpass logical limits, and I can have it there, safe, and use their platform to keep in touch with friends, organize dinners, share pictures and have there all my social-network activity. I’m not paying for a service I value and I understand that no-one does anything for free.
Each time I publish something on Facebook I’m 100% aware that I’m somehow loosing control over that information. Even if I can control the privacy settings, I feel that’s a weak barrier. Once it’s in Internet it’s there somehow for everyone. I believe we should all know that.
I used to be concerned about having my information online until I realized that, really, I have nothing to hide, I am who I am and I’m the first one trying to find out online things about the people I meet (linkedin, blogs, twitter, facebook…) so, why would I be bothered if that other people did the same about me?
What do you think?
